Advocacy Committe

Kelli J. Pierce, M.A., CCC-SLP

MSHA's Advocacy Committee has been working diligently over the last two years, and particularly the last few weeks, to implement changes to the educational limited license for clinical fellows in the state of Michigan. HB 4101 was introduced in early 2022. This proposed change extends the educational limited license from a 12-month non-renewable license to a 24-month license with the option to renew. The proposed bill allows for flexibility in the completion of the required 1,260 supervised hours needed for a full speech-language pathology license within the state. Kelli Pierce, VP for Advocacy, testified at the House of Representatives Health Policy Committee meeting on September 28, 2023, urging the committee to refer the bill to the House of Representatives. Once this bill moves through the committee, it will go to a vote in the House of Representatives. Once HB 4101 goes up for a vote in the House, we hope you'll lend your support to this bill by contacting your State Representative to support HB 4101.

Take the time to make a difference: A message from the MSHFoundation

Happy fall! We cannot wait for the leaves to turn into all their beautiful colors. But we know that they bring the promise of cold weather and the end of 2023. It’s not too late though; you still have time to make a difference. We offer you the chance to do so now.  Make a donation today to support students- our future speech-language pathologists and audiologists. Over the past 17 years, the Michigan Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (MSHFoundation) has awarded over $35,000 in scholarships to more than 75 graduate students pursuing degrees in our professions.  We have been able to do this thanks to generous donors like you.

Please visit our website: www.msha-foundation.org  or our facebook page for more information about our scholarship recipients and ways to donate. Consider joining our SAINTS development fund campaign. Think about honoring someone by making a donation in that person’s name.  We are so grateful for your support and our scholarship recipients are too.
If you are a student, please check out the scholarship application on our website.  The 2024 MSHF scholarship forom will be available soon.
As always, we appreciate your work as professionals to help persons with communication and/or swallowing disorders. Thank you for taking this opportunity to support the foundation.

Wishing you a glorious fall,
